A trip that usually lasts somewhere between five and seven hours. Get on the boat, find a space for you and your belongings and just wait and see. The boat is a colorfull blend of cultures and stories of people that are travelling the Lombok Strait.
26 December 2004 - When a massive earthquake struck just offshore of the nothern tip of Sumatera, this triggered one of the biggest natural disasters of modern time. Tsunami's upto ten meters swept kilometers inland in North Sumatera as well as many other countries in Asia and Africa.
January 2005 - Two friends, two motorbikes, two cameras and some spare time. Guarantees for a nice trip through the eastern part of Bali in the wet season. A trip from Amlapura towards Amed along the eastern coast and back again through the green sawahs east of Gunung Agung.
January 2005 - When in or around Malang, you should for sure bring a visit to the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park, with its series of volcanoes, located in and around a big caldera or crater of a massive old vulcano which has created smaller vocanoes in the area. These pictures show a trip over the foothills and slopes of these volcanoes on a less clear day then hoped for, but it was sheer incidence that we made the trip at a day like this.
December 2004 - The game of gasing is performed often after working hours in the hours that it's still light outside. A group of men gather at an open place in the city and start playing with their iron or wooden ufo-like objects.
30 November 2004 - A Lion Air plane crashlands onto Solo airport, skidding over half the runway before crashing into a graveyard and some ricefields. Several dozen people were killed. The crash didn't seem to cause any decrease in passengers for Lion Air as well as other low-cost airlines.
9 September 2004 - A powerful explosion outside Australia's embassy in central Jakarta left several people dead and at least three badly injured Thursday and caused extensive damage to nearby buildings, officials and witnesses said. According to local television, Anton Sujarwo, a security guard at the embassy, was killed in the blast.
April 2004 - The general elections in Indonesia take about the entire year this time. In three separate rounds over 140 milion people will elect their government and president (later this year). This photobook will give you a view on the colorfull displays of campaigns in the cities across the country.
March 2004 - While travelling from Bira to Tana Toraja in March, I encountered a 'Kampanye Damai' in Belopa (just before Palopo if travelling from south to north), a campaign which included all 24 parties to promote peacefull elections. An ultimate chance to make some images of their people and the atmosphere in this small town.
March 2004 - A four day stay in Tana Toraja including daily trips through the mountainous, rainy and warm area gives you a wonderfull look inside the daily life here. However much has changed for the sake of 'modernization', there are still many locations where you can still enjoy the very basics of life.
