Kebun Raya Bogor - Amorphophallus
August 2008 - The so-called 'penis plant' is not yet flowering. The plant will get one flower that looks like a giant penis and often smells like rotten meat because it has to be pollinated the same day. The Botanical Gardens of Bogor (Kebun Raya Bogor) are located some 60 kilometer south of the capital Jakarta in Bogor, west Java. The botanical gardens are located in the city center and are in one complex with the Presidential palace of Bogor (Istana Bogor). The gardens cover more than 80 hectares and are said to be the inspiration of Sir Stamford Raffles who was governor of Java from 1811-1816. The gardens officially opened in 1817 as 's Lands Plantentuin ('National Botanical Garden') and were used to research and develop plants and seeds from other parts of the Indonesian archipelago for cultivation during the 19th century.
