In the direct environment of the former fortress there are another eight builings in between the rice fields. Some of them are outside the barbed wire perimeter however. Fort Willem II is located about one kilometer outside the current village of Ambarawa at a short distance off the main road Semarang - Yogyakarta in Central Java.
