Parts of the fortress are not maintained very well, as you can see in this picture. Most of the woodwork has rotten away in the more than 60 years of independence, roofs are gone and the thick wooden doors have been removed here as well. Fort Willem II is located about one kilometer outside the current village of Ambarawa at a short distance off the main road Semarang - Yogyakarta in Central Java.
