October 2009 - The Jembatan Barelang ('Barelang Bridge') is a bridge that connects Batam island with other islands to the south of it. It in fact consists of six bridges, with the first one being the most impressive. De bridges were built between 1992 and 1996 by B.J. Habibie which later became president of Indonesia. In the picture the bridge is slightly obscured by smoke from forest firest on mainland Sumatra.
