1 October 2008 - Sholat Idul Fitri, the prayer on the first day after the holy month of fasting Ramadan, is held here in the Istiqlal Mosque (Masjid Istiqlal) in Central Jakarta. Like every year, hundreds of thousands of people gather in and around the mosque for this event. The nearby Medan Merdeka ('Freedom Square') with it's National Monument Monas was also used to house tens of thousands of Muslims which could not be housed inside the mosque.
