The Sumedang Regency lies forty-five kilometers to the east of Bandung. It is connected to Bandung by road and can reached by car in hour through beautiful plantation areas and the scenic Cadas Pangeran Hill. This road is a part of the main road connecting Jawa Barat with Jawa Tengah and Jawa Timur. Intercity buses and taxis to Sumedang are available in Bandung.
The Sumedang regency is a hilly area and the town of Sumedang lies forty meters above sea level. The temperature is this area varies in its different parts, in the lowlands, not more than ten meters above sea level, like in the mountainous areas of Manglayang, the Kareumbi plantation at Cakrabuana Mountain, and the temperature is around 15° Celsius.
About eight kilometers to the west of Sumedang there is a deep valley lying between rocky cliffs. Along the valley is the road, which connects Bandung and Cirebon. This place is considered historical and has been called Cadas Pangeran, meaning Prince Rock, in remembrance of the merit and bravery of Pangeran Kornel, governing regent at the time, who opposed the Dutch Colonial Government in Indonesia under the leadership of General Herman Willem Deandles.
At the time Deandles ordered to open and build a road from Anyer to Panarukan. When the work reached Sumedang, between the years of 1811 - 1812, Pangeran Kornel refused the order as he say that project was.
