Ten kilometers from Bogor you can find Cisarua on the slopes of Gunung Gede and Gunung Pangrango. From this village you can make very nice trips on foot. Past Cisarua the road lingers through the remote tea-plantations Gunung Mas, which are runned by the state-owned company PT Perkebonan XII. This 100 hectare plantation was set up in 1910. Nowadays it produces about 2500 tons of tea. In 1987 they started with a new method of production.
Against a payment of a small fee you are guided around the factories. You are expected to buy a small magazine with information as entrance ticket. The plantation also has a guesthouse, but you probably have to reserve in advance. When the 'high people of the tea' visit the guesthouse, everything and anyone is moved for their visit. The luxury rooms are not very expensife and are with breakfast included. You can drink tea in the Tea corner from Tuesdays until Sundays fronm 8 to 16 hours. From the plantation you can walk to Telaga Warna, a small mountain village which seems to be yellow, green or red, depending on the suns position.
Two kilometers past the market of Cisarua a turn leads to Taman Safari, a big safaripark with 40 different kind of animals, among them lions, white tigers, zebra's, bears and a colony of apes. Trained animals perform for the visitors five times a day. There also is a babyzoo on the 168 hectare terrain, and an animal hospital, a guesthourse and a trailerpark with swimming pool. The fall near Curug Jaksa there are a lot of butterflies. Who doesn't go there by car, can use a bus. Taman Safari is opened daily from 9 to 17, in the weekend from 8 in the morning.
