Visa for Indonesia

A visa-on-arrival has to be obtained before you enter the queue for the immigration check. The visa currently costs 25 US dollars, but payment in Indonesian Rupiah and euro is also accepted. After you have obtained your visa you will have tot queue up at the general line for immigration. Processing a visa-on-arrival generally only takes a few minutes, in contrary to popular belief that it takes 'a long time'.

A visa-on-arrival can only be obtained at a limited number of airports and ports in Indonesia. Be sure that you are entering Indonesia via one of those points, because otherwise you should already have a visa to Indonesia in your passport.

Extending a visa on arrival

It is possible to extend your visa on arrival one time, with an additional 30 days (not one month!). You will have to do this at a local immigration office in the city. You can not extend a visa on arrival at an airport office of the Indonesian immigration. Be prepared for quite a hassle at the immigration office and the fact that during your extension - between four and seven days - they will retain your passport.

You might want to choose to use the services of an agent. Most immigration offices have plenty of them, with some of them being friends of relatives of immigration officers. In this manner, you can smoothly extend your visa. Okay, it will carry a higher fee, but you will not be burdened too much and extending it might even be faster as well.
